I have been fortunate to meet wonderful people with rare skills; some of which are dying away. I have learned from the best and worked closely with local artisans that have taught me my trade.
It was during a trip to the Alcazar palace in Seville where I photographed some tiles and took inspiration from their design. I had the design printed on cotton and we now use it as linings for our espadrilles.
Our espadrilles have hand wound jute soles and are still stitched by hand in the traditional way, using jute thread, with a stitch known as ‘puntos indios’ that we know better as ‘blanket stitch’. Here the jute soles are dyed navy blue to give contrast to the over-stitching.
