A Place To Call Home

I am delighted to announce the opening of our first shop in London, which will open its doors today. Set in the leafy shopping streets of Notting Hill, Ledbury Road it is the perfect first location for us, being the natural home of the brand.

We are in very good company, amongst old friends with some of my favourite local businesses in the same street.

We are bang opposite the renowned Ottolenghi café, right next door to I love Gorgeous, the coolest designer clothes brand for children (and bespoke bridesmaids), a stone’s throw from Matches, London’s leading independent fashion store, across the road from my dear friend and favourite jewellery designer Pippa Small, and round the corner from Daylesford, our ‘best of British’, ecologically driven, excellent organic food producers.

And, last but not least is Portobello Market, an institution to be revered and protected, famous for antiques, fresh produce and vintage fashion. It’s a place where the art of recycling beautiful things and creating fashion trends is the very best in the world.

Excellent company indeed!

A Place To Call Home

I started my business twelve years ago from my kitchen table. Our home was literally bursting at the seams with stock and customers.  In those days, orders were packed in the sitting room so car keys and mobile phones would occasionally drop accidentally into packages and arrive within the delivery to a faraway place like LA and children would play hide-and-seek in the cartons.  Once our orders reached 400 units we decided it was time to move out.

Lucy and I moved into our Notting Hill design studio in Barlby Road about seven years ago, where we have been welcoming you ever since with a cup of tea while you peruse and buy from the collection.

Six years ago we launched a successful online boutique, which has now grown to be an important business in itself and the Penelope Chilvers family continues to grow.

A Place To Call Home - Bespoke Bridal Samples At Ledbury Road

The exciting thing for me about opening a shop is that it is an opportunity to house the entire collection as it was designed to be seen, in a place that feels like home. It’s an opportunity to meet more of our customers, so we can respond to their needs and expectations and offer more specialist advice and service.

It’s the perfect place to launch our new bridal slipper service and we have a dedicated “PCB” (Penelope Chilvers Bridal) room in the shop to offer brides-to-be and any other bespoke Dandy slipper customers a personal service in-house.  A quintessential Penelope Chilvers men’s collection will also be introduced at the shop that will be exclusive to us, and we also have a few sweet mini-me styles for children.

Please pop in and say “Hello”

We all look forward to seeing you there x
